In this article is explaining, How to connect batteries in series or batteries in parallel? The batteries are available in different size, voltage, and amps as per our requirement.  So there are some important things to keep in mind when adding batteries to the pack, learn the requirements of your application.

How to connect Batteries in series or Batteries in parallel

The Batteries in series or Batteries in parallel connection will increase Battery Voltage and Amps. What are the uses to increase Battery Voltage and Amps? For the battery Voltage and Amps to increase, you should understand that, what parallel and series connections.

WARNING
While connecting the Battery to connect batteries in series or batteries in parallel, you should use proper insulated tools and wear PPE. Because of this type of Battery connection very dangerous voltage and amps producing, it causes heavy injury or death. If you don’t have known this type of connections, don’t try it.

Rechargeable Battery types

Many types and models of Rechargeable Batteries are available in the market. We can select as per our requirements.

1, Led Acid battery

The Led Acid battery is low cost and reliable. It will get maintenance and non-maintenance, but its life is a short time, it may be working below 4 years. The Led Acid battery is normally using moving vehicles, ups backup, and solar power bank.

2, Nickel Cadmium battery (Ni-Cd)

The Nickel Cadmium battery (Ni-Cd) is very costly. But its lifetime is also very high, it’s maybe above 15 years. The Nickel Cadmium battery is normally using ups and solar power bank.

3, Lithium-ion battery (Li)

The Lithium-ion battery is normally using the Mobile phone and moving vehicles for backup.

Batteries in parallel

When batteries will connect in parallel, we can double the battery Ah (amps per hour) while the battery voltage of one of the individual batteries is maintained. It will be used in applications such as laptop batteries, some scooters, some backups etc. Use a jumper connector wire between the negative of both the batteries and the positive between the two batteries. Connect your positive and negative wires on the same battery to run on your application.

The Batteries in parallel connection wires are looping only for positive (plus (+)) or negative (minus (-)) terminals. In this way, we can connect any number of batteries. So in this way, we can increase the output Amps per hour (Ah). But this connection output will get high Amps per hour (Ah).

A weak cell or Battery will not affect voltage but will provide fewer runtime due to low efficiency. A short cell can cause excessive heat and can be prone to fire. By separating a fuse cell on a large pack prevents high flow.

So, if we are connecting Parallel 4 Nos 12V - 7Ah Battery as shown above the picture. The output voltage will be 12 Vdc. But its Amps per hour (Ah) is high. That means 4 times 7Ah is equal to 28Ah.

Batteries in series

When connecting your battery to the chain, you are doubling the voltage while maintaining the same ability rating (amp hour). It will use solar systems and backups in the UPS system. Simply use a jumper wire between the negative of the first battery and the positive of the second battery.

The battery in series connection, wires are connecting on positive (plus +) to negative (minus -) terminals. So this way, we can connect any number of batteries, which voltage we want. The series connections are mostly using in grid solar panels and UPS power bank systems.

E.g. If we are connected in series 4 Nos 12 V - 7 Ah Battery, which as shown above the picture. This output voltage will be 48 V DC. But its Amps per hour (Ah) is low. That means 4 times 12 V is equal to 48 V Dc - 7 Ah. In this way, we can connect any number of Batteries. E.g. 20 nose 12 V - 7 Ah batteries connect in series we will get 240 V, in this case, amps is same 7 Ah.

The battery terminals will connect on positive (plus +) to negative (minus -) series in 2 Batteries. Then we can connect both sets of batteries in Parallel as shown the image. This way will use to increase Battery Voltage and Amps. We can use the Series and Batteries in series or Batteries in parallel connection for saving or backup the charge from grid solar panels and large UPS system.

When you are connecting Parallel and series 2 set of 2 times 12V - 7Ah Batteries as shown above the picture. The output voltage will be 24 Vdc. But its Amps per hour (Ah) will increase. That means 2 times 24 x 7Ah, the output is equal to 24 Vdc - 28Ah.
