How does a Vessel Media Filters Work?

At the start of the filter, water must seep through the water inlet into the Media layer. At this time, most of the contaminants trapped on the surface of the medium, small amounts of small dust, and other suspended organic matter are trapped within the media layer. Where is using Vessel Filters?

Industrial wastewater can come from manufacturing, plating, tank cleaning, mining, or other industrial processes. For some wastewater, filtration alone may be sufficient to meet discharge requirements. Often a waste water filter is a stage in a treatment system that may contain several other components. Filtration creates solids that the filter removes by other processes, so it can be used in multiple stages of the waste water treatment.

Filtration captures particles of various sizes such as clay, sand, colloids, microorganisms and organic particles. Contaminants adhering to particulate matter can also be removed through adsorption. Filtration, alone or in combination with other processes, can reduce total suspended solids (TSS), biological oxygen demand (BOD), dissolved turbid solids (dirt), chemical oxygen demand (COD), and other metals.

What are the medias using in Filter unit?

Vessel filter is also called media filtration system, it is a kind of filter media to remove suspended solids, microorganisms and other fine particles in water, and finally reduce the turbidity of water and filter the water with high efficiency. Purifying quality effect. , Commonly used filter materials are Pebbles, coarse sands, different type sands, activated carbon, anthracite, manganese dioxide (MNo2) and Katalox lite etc.

Multimedia Vessel Filter

It required a Vessel, Multi Port Valve and Medias. The Multimedia vessel filters / Multimedia PVC water filters are same as sand filters, but can sometimes be water produced more efficient and cleaner in multimedia water filter. Multimedia filters have two or more media layers on top of a layer of gravel. Many type medias are using to reduce porosity in the vessel filtration.

The larger medias are covered the bottom strainer. the small denser medias one by one laying on the top layer by layer. The largest particles are removed near the top of the media bed, and smaller particles are trapped deeper and deeper in the medias. Multimedia filter filter out more particles than sand filters before back-washing is needed. Some of the media’s characteristics explained below.

What is media filter used for?

 

1/2" Pebbles

The pebbles standard size is 6 to 12 mm, it is used for the first layer of the filtration media. It is used for fully covered of the bottom strainer. Half inch Pebbles are using for first bed in to the vessel filtration.

 

Coarse Sand - ¼” Silex (Quartz Silex Sand)

 

Fine coarse sand is a natural product that has been specifically graded to meet the recommendations and specifications of major sand filter manufacturers. The filter sand is ground to a main size of 2.0 to 5 mm in diameter and is very coarse when fresh. This roughness allows the sand to effectively filter out dust particles in the water. Dry and free from dust, dirt, impurities and organic matter. It is not intended for building construction. As this sand roughness softens, the filter becomes less efficient. That means may the coarse sand will have to run another 10 or more years to do the same softens in the filter.

Medium Coarse Sand (Medium Silex Sand)

In the industries produce engage in processing and supplying high quality filter media sand effective size in 0.3 to 0.7 mm. Coarse sand has hexagonal crystal structure and is made on trigonal crystallized silica. It is most differed in terms of color and forms. That means may the coarse sand will have to run another 10 or more years to do the same softens in the filter.

Granular Activated Carbon

Carbon mesh sizes are available in 12x30, 12x40, and 8x30.

 

This 830C, 1230C and 1240C carbon is a highly active coconut shell based granular activated carbon. This hard, abrasion-resistant, surface-area carbon is designed to remove difficult-to-adsorb organics from drinking water, waste and process water. It is particularly effective for chlorine adsorption, disinfection and other trace organic matter.

What is Katalox Light Media

In the water filtration Katalox lite is the one of the catalytic media with the highest surface area. That removes turbidity to more than >3 µm (micron) of suspended solids from water.

The major advantage of Katalox-Light is the loss of the slow head speed which leads to longer operation time. Katalox presents a high and rough surface with a large number of pores and cracks. Accordingly, the structural and texture is quite different from green sand Plus and Filter-OX. As a result, it allows for slow head damage development, but at the same time causes a high pH and high removal of iron and manganese without using any chemicals. Manganese Dioxide (Mno2)

Manganese dioxide (MnO2) is used in various manufacturing processes, but is widely used in the water treatment industry. MnO2 is used for the purpose of softening hard water by removing iron and other soluble metals from water. Manganese is commonly used in the oxidation chamber of a water treatment plant to oxidize soluble metals, mainly iron, to make water soft and potable.

Ion Exchange Resins

Ion exchange resins are synthetic polymer beads or granules that contain charged sites. It can attract ions of opposite charge in hard water to remove or concentrate impurities. It can be removed and regenerate with salt water backwash from this resin. So, we can be use resins for long time water softening.


Ion exchange resins for water treatment in industrial applications (such as boiler make-up water softening, deionization). They have used some specialized resins in critical high purity applications in the nuclear, microelectronics, food and beverage industries.
